Michelin Indonesia introduced its “Michelin Better Mining” approach at the Mining Expo 2025 in Jakarta on Wednesday, aiming to improve operational efficiency and workplace safety in Indonesia’s mining sector through integrated technological solutions.
The initiative, presented during a talk show held at Hall C2 of JiExpo Kemayoran, combines high-performance mining tires, predictive monitoring systems, and engineering support tailored to address the industry’s real-world challenges, according to PT Michelin Indonesia president director Ichayut Kanittasoonton.
“We believe the future of the mining industry requires more than just products,” Ichayut said. “Through Michelin Better Mining, we provide a combination of high-performance mining tires, predictive monitoring systems, and comprehensive engineering support, all designed to drive tangible improvements in efficiency, safety, and productivity.”
A key innovation featured was the MEMS 4 (Michelin Earthmover Management System), a real-time tire monitoring technology that tracks pressure and temperature to support quicker, more accurate operational decisions. This system helps reduce equipment downtime and mitigates the risk of accidents caused by tire failure.
Michelin also showcased its 27.00 R49 XD Grip mining tire, which can carry up to 10 percent more load compared to similar products on the market. At one Indonesian mining site, the integration of Michelin tires with operational data analysis led to a more optimal tire rotation strategy, resulting in significantly lower operational costs and improved field productivity.
Michelin emphasized its role as a long-term strategic partner to the mining industry, offering a holistic service approach that includes haul road assessments, operator training, and post-purchase support based on data and analytics.
The company’s participation in Mining Expo 2025 reflects its ongoing commitment to support the transformation of Indonesia’s mining sector through innovation, technology, and strategic industry collaboration.
