Kelastambang: The mining industry’s transition toward electrification and low-emission technologies has emerged as a key focus at the second week of the Indonesia Energy & Engineering (IEE) 2025 exhibition, held from September 17 to 20 at JIExpo Kemayoran, Jakarta.
Spanning 143,000 square meters, the event showcases a range of electric heavy machinery designed to accelerate the green transformation of Indonesia’s mining sector. Global brands are exhibiting electric wheel loaders, electric excavators, electric lifts, EV trucks, and hybrid EV excavators—solutions aimed at supporting sustainable industrialization and strengthening the national supply chain in line with the event’s theme, “Sustainability for Industrial Transformation.”

Speaking at one of the workshops, Eric Odar, Trade Commissioner of Sweden to Indonesia and representative of Business Sweden under the Swedish Embassy, highlighted the importance of electrification in the mining sector under the Sweden-Indonesia Sustainability Partnership (SISP).
“The partnership with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources is grounded in the shared vision of both countries to achieve sustainability targets. In 2025, our focus is on the mining sector, which is a pillar of Indonesia’s economy,” Odar said.
He noted that the mining industry plays a critical enabling role in global sustainable development, particularly in supplying materials for batteries and electric vehicles.
“Electrification in mining can lower fuel costs, reduce maintenance, improve worker safety, and enhance ESG performance. This aligns well with Indonesia’s EV roadmap,” he added.
Among the exhibitors, Shandong Heavy Industry (SDHI) unveiled several new heavy equipment units under its Shantui brand, integrating artificial intelligence (AI) for enhanced operations. The AI-equipped machines can notify operators about equipment and fuel conditions, reduce maintenance intervals, communicate with operators and other machinery, improve workplace safety, and enhance ESG performance.
SDHI’s participation at Mining Indonesia 2025 follows its rebranding effort earlier this year to emphasize the AI capabilities embedded in its equipment. The company views electrification and digitalization as key solutions to address diesel fuel consumption, emissions, and operational noise in mining operations.
In addition to AI integration, several global brands are also introducing large-scale electric heavy equipment. Zoomlion showcased a 120-ton wide-body electric dump truck during the first week, one of the largest capacities currently used in mining operations. In the second week, GM Tractors, through its partner XCMG, introduced another 120-ton electric dump truck, along with a new hybrid EV excavator, reaffirming its commitment to the green mining transition.
“We are seeing growing interest from clients to gradually replace their heavy machinery fleets with electric alternatives,” said Yulius Sikku, Sales & Marketing Director at GM Tractors said as quoted from the press release issued by the Pamerindo Indonesia, the organizer of the expo.
“While the transition requires time and ecosystem readiness, we are committed to providing electric innovations. Our EV trucks are equipped with large battery capacities and can even be used to charge electric machinery deep inside project sites,” he added.
As more industry players express readiness to adopt electrified equipment, IEE 2025 marks a pivotal moment in Indonesia’s journey toward cleaner and more sustainable mining operations.
